SYDNEY, N.S. — A bail hearing has been adjourned again in Nova Scotia for a woman dubbed the “Black Widow,” who is charged with attempted murder after her husband became ill three days after the elderly couple got married.
Melissa Ann Weeks arrived at Sydney provincial court on Friday in a sheriff’s van, handcuffed and wearing a black-hooded jacket.
She spoke only once at the end of the brief hearing, telling the judge: “Thank you, your honour.”
The 77-year-old woman faces charges of attempted murder and administering a noxious thing after Fred Weeks, 75, became ill late last month.
Weeks has been ordered to return to court on Oct. 26.
It is the third time the bail hearing has been adjourned, but outside court Crown attorney Dan MacRury said it is not unusual for a case to be adjourned this many times.
